There is one particular area of Jupiter where a storm has been raging for hundreds of years. This is the Great Red Spot which is twice as large as Earth. Nobody really knows why it is red! Jupiter has at least 79 moons orbiting it, including the Solar System's Aquarius (Single Edit) - T.N.M.
[The New Movement]* - Aquarius moon Ganymedethe most volcanic moon Io and one that may be entirely covered with water under a surface of ice Europa. Jupiter takes 9 hours and 55 minutes to turn on its axis, meaning that its day is the shortest of all planets, but takes almost 12 years Saturn is the second largest planet in the Solar System.
It is similar in make-up to Jupiterbut isn't quite as stormy. What makes Saturn stand out though are its rather splendid rings. These rings are layers of rock and ice that orbit the planet.
Like JupiterSaturn also has lots of moons 62 at the last countincluding Titan which has a thick atmosphere, and Enceladus which erupts plumes of water particles, creating one of Saturn's rings and suggesting that there is lots of water on it. Saturn takes 29 years to orbit the Sun. Uranus is the third largest planet, a featureless world which orbits on its side. It has 27 moons which are mostly named after characters in Shakespeare's plays. Uranus was the first planet to be discovered as all of the other closer planets Untitled - Inner System - Mr.

Neptune is the most distant of the eight planets in the Solar System. It was discovered in by German astonomer, Johann Gottfried Galle.
Neptune is a deep blue colour, with darker patches representing stormy areas that come and go over time. Neptune is thought to be the windiest planet in the Solar System. Neptune has 14 known moons and takes years to Untitled - Inner System - Mr. Alien around the Sunmeaning that since it was discovered it has only completed one journey around the Sun. Asteroids are rocks, some small, some very large. Most asteroids are irregularly shaped, appearing like fragments of rock.
It is thought that the Asteroid Belt and its contents may be the result of a planet that didn't form. Planets form as rocks collide with each other, increasing their pull of gravity to attract more rocks to them, and eventually growing to be fully fledged planets, meaning one that is spherical and clear of Untitled - Inner System - Mr.

For Untitled - Inner System - Mr. Alien reason, possibly something to do with Untitled - Inner System - Mr. Alien own formation, the objects in the Asteroid Belt couldn't really get together to Untitled - Inner System - Mr. Alien a planet. So they remained as rocks floating around. Some objects nearly did get there, such as Vesta, Pallas and Hygiea, asteroids which are fairly large but nowhere near planet-sized or planet-shaped.
Vesta, the largest, is only kilometres miles in diamater, which is tiny even when compared with the Solar System's smallest planet, Mercurywhich is 4, km 3, miles. However, one object in the Asteroid Belt which was once considered a planet, then an asteroid, and now a dwarf The Old Man Dreams - Various - The Renfro Valley Gatherin No.

It is km miles in diameter. Ceres accounts for about a third of the total mass of the Asteroid Belt. A recent visit to Ceres by the Dawn spacecraft observed a couple of bright spots on its surface which might be ice volcanoes, which sounds rather exciting, or possibly some sort of salt, which isn't quite as exciting.
Some Asteroids can be found travelling around other parts of the Inner Solar System in their own unique orbits. Other ones may get disturbed from the Asteroid Belt, either through a collision with another one, or by the effects of gravity of other planets.
Astronomers keep a look out for Near Earth Asteroids with the hope that none of them have Earth in their sights. If they do, it's either a case of sending Bruce Willis up to it, or life on Earth going the way of the dinosaur. There are five objects in the Solar System which are classed as dwarf planets.
Although there are are currently five dwarf planetsthere are lots of other objects which are likely to fall into the same category. All we need are two more and then we have the seven dwarfs. Ceresmentioned above, is the only dwarf planet that orbits within the orbits of the main planets in the Solar System, which means that it is the closest dwarf planet to Earth.
It is situated in the Asteroid Belt and takes 4 years and days to orbit the Sun. Ceres is the smallest of the dwarf planets. Plutothe largest of the dwarf planetswas discovered in by American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh. It was initially classified as a planet and remained the ninth planet in the Solar System until when it was reclassified as a dwarf planet.
It is so far away that it takes a whopping years to get around the Sun. Although Pluto is further out than Neptuneit has an elliptical orbit which means that its orbit is sometimes closer to the Sun than Neptune's. The last time this happened was between and Pluto has Untitled - Inner System - Mr. Alien moons, including Charon which is almost as large as Pluto itself. Pluto was visited by the New Horizons spacecraft in Haumea is shaped more like a rugby ball, or an American football, than a sphere like other dwarf planets.
Haumea spins on its axis very quickly, taking only 4 hours to do so. It Sticks An Stones (may Break Your Bones) - La La La Ressonance - Faust to complete an orbit of the Sun. It is known to have two moons. Makemake was discovered in by astronomers at Palomar University.
A moon of Makemake was discovered in Not a lot is known about Makemake because it is so far away and quite small, probably up to about 1, km 1, miles in diameter. It is known to have one moon. PlutoHaumea and Makemake all exist in a region Als Die Alterne Diva - Alan Bennett - Handauflegen the Kuiper Belt.

That same year, Basquiat met Andy Warhol at a restaurant. Basquiat presented to Warhol samples of his work, and Warhol was stunned by Basquiat's "mystique and allure. Downtown 81 featured some of Gray's recordings on its soundtrack. During the early s, Basquiat made his breakthrough as a solo artist. So I said, "Well, what's she like? So Madonna came out and stayed for a few months and we all got along like one big, happy family. During this time, Basquiat took considerable interest in the work that Robert Rauschenberg was producing at Gemini G. In lateBasquiat met Annina Nosei with his first exhibition in her gallery in a group show called Public Address with Keith Haring and Barbara Kruger among others, and he joined the Annina Nosei gallery and worked in a basement below the gallery toward his first American one-man show from March 6 to April 1, It did not rely on visual stimulation, such as a pretty girl.

The single's cover featured Basquiat's artwork, making the pressing highly desirable among both record and art collectors. A large number of photographs depict a 2—3 year collaboration between Warhol and Basquiat from and which included Olympic Ringsin which Warhol made some Olympic five-ring symbols rendered in the original primary colors and which Basquiat stylized with his graffiti style. Many of his peers speculated that his heroin use was a means of coping with the demands of his newfound fame, the exploitative nature of the art industry, and the pressures of being a black man in the white-dominated art world.
Following his return from a trip to Hawaii in the last Dust - The Defense - Common Sense of his life, Keith Haring reports meeting with Basquiat who was glad to tell Haring that he had finally kicked his dependence on drugs.
Among those speaking at Basquiat's memorial held at Saint Peter's Church on November 3,was Ingrid Sischy who, as the editor of Artforum in the s, got to know the artist well and commissioned a number of articles that introduced his work to the wider world.
Greedily, we wonder what else he might have created, what masterpieces we have been cheated out of by his death, but the fact is that he has created enough work to intrigue generations to come. Only now will people begin to understand the magnitude of his contribution".
According to Franklin SirmansBasquiat appropriated poetry, drawing, and painting, and married text and image, abstractionfigurationand historical information mixed with contemporary critique. Before his career as a painter began, he produced punk-inspired postcards for sale on the street, and became known for the political—poetical graffiti under the name of SAMO.
On one occasion Basquiat painted his girlfriend's dress with the words "Little Shit Brown". He would often draw on random objects and surfaces, including other people's property.

A major reference source used by Basquiat throughout his career was the book Gray's Anatomywhich his mother had given him while he was in the hospital aged seven. It remained influential in his depictions of internal human anatomy, and in its mixture of image and text. A prominent theme in the early Basquiat portrayed historically prominent black figures, such as Charlie Parkerwho were identified by Basquiat as black heroes and saints. These were often identified with the iconographic depiction of crowns and halos to distinguish heroes and saints in Basquiat's specially chosen pantheon.
The urban landscape inspired the subject matter, approach, and materials used in these pieces". In his short career, Basquiat produced around drawingsas well as around paintings and many sculpture and mixed media works. Basquiat drew constantly, and often used Untitled - Inner System - Mr.

Heads and skulls are seen as significant focal points of many of Basquiat's most seminal works. In reference to the potent image depicted in both pieces, Fred Hoffman writes that Basquiat Untitled - Inner System - Mr.
Alien likely, "caught off guard, possibly even frightened, by the power and energy emanating from this unexpected image. Two letters of the word "Nile" are crossed out and Frohne suggests that, "The letters that are wiped out and scribbled over perhaps reflect the acts of historians who have conveniently forgotten that Egyptians were black and blacks were enslaved.
The Nubians historically were darker in skin color, and were considered to be slaves by the Egyptian people. The word "salt" that appears on the right panel of the work refers to the Atlantic slave trade, as salt was another important commodity traded at that time. Another of Basquiat's pieces, Irony of Negro Policemanis intended to illustrate how he believes African-Americans have been controlled by a predominantly Caucasian society. Basquiat sought to portray that African-Americans have become complicit with the "institutionalized forms of whiteness and corrupt white regimes of power" years after the Jim Crow era had ended.
The hat that frames the head of the Negro policeman resembles a cage, and represents what Basquiat believes are the constrained independent perceptions of African Americans at the time, Untitled - Inner System - Mr. Alien how constrained the policeman's own perceptions were within white society. Paradoxically, it is the very act of creating these representations that conjures a positive corporeal valence between the artist and his sense of self or identity. Traditionally, the interpretation of Basquiat's works at the visual level comes from the subdued emotional tone of what they represent compared to what is actually depicted. For example, the figures in his paintings, as stated by Stephen Metcalf"are shown frontally, with little or no depth of field, and nerves and organs are exposed, as in an anatomy textbook.
Are these creatures dead and being clinically dissected, one wonders, or alive and in immense pain? A second recurrent reference to Basquiat's aesthetics comes from the artist intention to share, in the words of Niru Ratnum, a "highly individualistic, expressive view of the world".
Finally every energy you drop is marking a territory, is a traffic sign, is directing and feeding spirits. What seems like a mess for some of us in the Cartesian logic, it is maybe a clear spiritual route for some others. Regarding the relation between painting and graffiti, Olivia Laing states: "Words jumped out at him, from the back of cereal boxes or subway ads, and he stayed alert to their subversive properties, their double and hidden meaning. In the words of the Marc Mayer essay "Basquiat in History", "Basquiat speaks articulately while dodging the full impact of clarity like a matador.
We can read his pictures without strenuous effort—the words, the images, the colors and the construction—but we cannot quite fathom the point they belabor. Quantifying the encyclopedic breadth of his research certainly results in an interesting inventory, but the sum cannot adequately explain his pictures, which requires an effort outside the purview of iconography
